<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical device which can stably and accurately hold a functional optical fiber and drastically and efficiently manufacture a highly reliable ferrule including the functional optical fiber in comparison with a conventional method and also provide the optical device. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the optical device, softened glass is molded into a long capillary obtaining a plurality of short capillaries, an inner hole of the long capillary is filled with an adhesive, an attenuation optical fiber 6 as a long functional optical fiber is inserted into the inner hole of the long capillary, the long capillary with the attenuation optical fiber 6 is divided into a plurality of capillaries 12 with the attenuation optical fiber having a predetermined length, and end faces 12a, 12b of the capillary with the attenuation optical fiber are polished.
