PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of automatically setting items necessary for the initial operation thereof after an installation to optimum control constants for installation conditions by automatically diagnosing these items. SOLUTION: This air conditioner comprises an automatic diagnosing means for diagnosing the acceptability of the connection state or operating state thereof and an automatic control constant setting means for automatically setting the control constants thereof according to the peripheral conditions of the installed air conditioner. The diagnosis and automatic setting are performed when main power source is turned on after the installation is completed. The automatic diagnosing means comprises a confirmation means for an operating vale opening, a confirmation means for lowering of a gas pressure, a confirmation means for break of the cable of a sensor, a confirmation means for compressor operation, a confirmation means for operation of an electronic expansion valve, a confirmation means for operation of a four-way valve, and a confirmation means for operation of an air blower. The automatic control constant setting means comprises a means for automatically setting the control constants of the electronic expansion valve and a means for automatically setting room temperature control constants different from each other according to the installation environments.
