<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module having a low height by facilitating monitoring of light output, and facilitating manufacture in the optical module converting emission light of a vertical cavity surface emitting means by an optical path. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical module, a part of a base substance 10 is removed by anisotropic etching due to alkali water solution or the like, and an inclined face 11 and a non-etching face 13 sandwiching the inclined face 11 are formed. A vertical cavity surface emitting laser 18 which is a vertical cavity surface emitting means is mounted by a flip chip method in the state that the inclined face 11 is mounted on the non-etching face of the base substance 10.
