During a first stage a detailed representation (14,16,18,20) of the data which covers hourly periods (22) during a day is stored in a first memory sector (10). Periodically the hourly data is consolidated into daily data (24) and stored in a second memory sector (12) which spans a period of many weeks or months. The last detailed hourly data is retained for reference.
