SUPPLEMENTAL SEAL FOR CHORDAL HINGE SEAL IN GAS TURBINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supplemental seal for eventually minimize or excluding a leakage loss passing through a chord hinge seal. SOLUTION: A gas turbine has the chordal hinge seal 46 between an inside rail 52 of nozzle segments 41 and an annular seal surface 54 opposite to the axial direction of a nozzle support ring 44. The supplemental seal 70 is arranged between a support ring and the inside rail of the nozzle segments at a low pressure side of the chordal hinge seal. The supplemental seal contains an annular composite tubular woven compliant seal 76 arranged and segmented in a cavity 74 along the seal surface of the inside rail. The seal is pushed against the annular seal surface of the nozzle support ring, and the annular seal surface compresses the seal. The supplemental seal is formed with compliance of the seal at the low pressure side of the chordal hinge seal 46. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
