PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a channel selecting apparatus utilizing speech recognition in which an operator can easily select a channel by pronouncing a display channel, a receiving channel or the name of a broadcasting station matched to a living area even without troublesome word registration. SOLUTION: This channel selecting apparatus comprises: a receiving channel table containing words for displaying the receiving channel; a channel setting information storage part for storing a channel selecting position and the receiving channel in mutual correlation with each other; a dictionary for registering words for displaying the receiving channel correlated with the channel selecting position, a dictionary generating part which, when the new receiving channel is correlated with the channel selecting position, automatically searches the words for displaying the receiving channel newly correlated with the channel selecting position from the receiving channel table, updating and registering that word on the dictionary; a speech input part; a speech recognition part; and a channel selection control part for receiving and outputting the signal of the receiving channel on the basis of the speech recognition result.
