PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastics substrate for a display element having a reflection surface on the substrate itself and with excellent display performance by changing the raw material of a substrate from conventional glass into plastics and further to provide a reflective or semitransmissive liquid crystal display device using the same. SOLUTION: The plastics substrate for the display element is characterized by having uniform and uneven projections and recessions satisfying inequalities 500≥(Ga-Gb)/Gb×100≥5, Ga>Gb at least on one surface where the maximum value of specular gloss at 60°incident angle is expressed by Gmax and specular gloss measured in a direction orthogonal to the in-plane direction along which Gmax is measured is expressed by Gmin.
