POLYACRYLONITRILE-BASED CARBON FIBER NONWOVEN FABRIC, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fiber nonwoven fabric useful as a carbon fiber material such as an electrode material for polymeric fuel cells, and to provide a method for producing the carbon fiber nonwoven fabric.

SOLUTION: This PAN-based carbon fiber nonwoven fabric having a bulk density of 0.15-0.35 g/cm3comprises 100 pts.mass of PAN-based carbon fibers 10-20 μm in fiber diameter DCA and 5-40 pts.mass of PAN-based carbon fibers with a fiber diameter of DCB with the ratio DCB/DCA of 0.4-0.8. The method for producing the nonwoven fabric comprises processing oxidized fibers with a fiber diameter of DOA and oxidized fibers with a fiber diameter of DOB with the ratio DOB/DOA of 0.4-0.8 into a PAN-based oxidized fiber nonwoven fabric, which is then carbonized.
