PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging apparatus of which AGC circuit can be downsized and power consumption can be lowered and to provide an imaging apparatus using it. SOLUTION: The AGC circuit 103 controls storage time on the basis of the maximum signal from an AF circuit and a variable gain signal amplifier circuit 106 controls gain on the basis of the difference between the maximum and the minimum signals. The amplifier circuit 106 outputs a signal using the minimum signal as a standard. These enable us to downsize the AGC circuit, which results in the downsizing of a chip, lowering of power consumption and accurate automatic focusing on a subject of low contrast.
