PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a stable recording operation by loading a disk in the state with the minimum block error rate. SOLUTION: After the disk is loaded, the position of a turntable is confirmed, and the disk motor is started (S1 and S2). A block error rate (BLER) is measured, and the measured value is displayed by a display means (S3-S5). Thereafter, the disk motor is stopped, and the turntable is stopped in the initial position (S6 and S7). The contact state between the disk and the turntable is released (S8). It is driven from the rotational position in which the disk motor is stopped to the position rotated by 90 degrees (S9). By chucking the disk which is again brought into contact with the turntable, the block error rate is measured (S10 and NO in S11). These steps are repeated through one rotation of the disk motor, and the position in which the block error rate becomes minimum is obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
