PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent meshing cogs from being broken when an optical pickup is protruded to the movement limit position at the outer periphery side of a disk. SOLUTION: A rack 6 forming a rack-pinion mechanism 5 as a feed drive mechanism is provided to a movable body 2. A pinion 7 is rotated by a drive motor M. A stopper 25 regulating the movement limit position for the optical pickup 3 is provided. The rack 6 consists of a stationary rack 61 and a movable rack 65. The N or N-1 (e.g. N is 2) pieces of the meshing cogs 62a and 62a of the stationary rack which exist within the radius of the tip of the cogs of the pinion 7 when the movable body 2 abuts on the stopper 25 are cut out. The N (e.g. N is 2) pieces of the meshing cogs at the inner edge of the movable rack 65 are cut out. When the moving body 2 abuts on the stopper 25, the meshing cogs 66c of the movable rack 65 face the cutout cog 63. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
