PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the prior art so that a value representing a transmission gear ratio is accurately calculated from signals of a drive side primary rpm and a driven side secondary rpm to meet an actual transmission gear ratio. SOLUTION: Sensor means are disposed. The sensor means generates a fault signal depending on an instantaneous primary rpm and/or an instantaneous secondary rpm, and the fault signal indicates whether a value for the transmission gear ratio, that is calculated from the instantaneous values of the primary rpm and the secondary rpm, is to be output as the signal representing the transmission gear ratio or not.
