PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smelting method for high-manganese steel, which assures a decarburization rate required for vacuum decarburizing treatment, and controls vaporization loss of manganese in a molten steel better than before. SOLUTION: This smelting method comprises adding aluminum into molten steel in a ladle, during tapping it into a converter, to restrain a temperature fall of the molten steel in the ladle, and blowing an oxygen jet 5 mingled with sprayed water to the molten steel, which is provided by mixing oxygen gas top-blown from a top-blowing lance 4 with water, along with adjusting degree of vacuum in a vacuum degassing tank 3 to 5,300-14,000 Pa, during vacuum decarburizing treatment. Then, the method not only controls a vaporization loss of manganese in the molten steel better than before, while surely keeping the temperature necessary for vacuum decarburizing treatment, but also enables inexpensive and swift vacuum decarburization, because the method controls evaporation of manganese by cooling the ignition point at which the oxygen jet 5 collides with the molten steel, by water.
