<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus capable of obtaining bright reflection display. <P>SOLUTION: An optical film 20 having a characteristic for straightly directing and transmitting one of two orthogonal polarization components of an incident light and refracting and transmitting the other is disposed on a front side as an observed side of display of a liquid crystal element 10 for controlling a polarization state of a transmitted light. An optical element 1 comprising an optical layer 2 having the characteristic for straightly directing and transmitting one of two orthogonal polarization components of the incident light and refracting and transmitting the other, a reflection film 6 disposed opposite to one face of the optical layer 2 and a plurality of light absorbing walls 7 disposed substantially perpendicular to the reflection film 6 at intervals in the plate direction of the reflection film 6 between the optical layer 2 and the reflection film 6 is disposed on a back side of the liquid crystal element 10 so as to place the optical layer 2 opposite to the liquid crystal element 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
