PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical character reader capable of easily and rapidly performing the adjustment, maintenance, and inspection operations of an optical system installed in a reading part without requiring measuring instrument such as an oscilloscope. SOLUTION: A graphic LCD 15 is installed in the display part of an operation panel (OPL). When an operation menu for the adjustment or inspection of the optical system provided on the reading part is selected on the operation panel (OPL), the photoelectrically converted output waveform of a CCD part 12 is imaginarily displayed on the graphic LCD 15.
