PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method capable of easily segmenting only required part from recorded data in the case of recording multimedia data such as video data for a long time. SOLUTION: When video recording is started by a video recording start instruction, a timer measures a video recording continuous time. When a prescribed time elapses from the start of video recording (step S1), the recording apparatus acquires data to be recorded by an encoder (step S2). Then the apparatus applies compression processing in compliance with the MPEG 2 system or the like to the acquired data (step S3). When data compression is finished, information of 'start' and 'end' corresponding to the compressed data is generated (step S4), and each generated information is recorded (step S5). After continuing video recording, when the video recording is finished on the basis of a video recording end instruction by a key switch (step S7), the data compression, the head and end information is generated and the resulting data are recorded at that point of time (step S8).
