PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management device by which the range of values of property is specified when rendition is requested and description for a server to return the rendition conforming to a client's request best in the range can be obtained. SOLUTION: The document management device by which a plurality of renditions can be stored or generated for one document including images, voices and video, is provided with a rendition condition specification means 1 capable of specifying the range of values of the property as rendition selecting conditions, a rendition selection means 2 that selects the rendition matching the specified conditions best, a rendition management means 3 capable of storing or generating a plurality of the renditions of the document and a rendition output means 4 that transmits the matched rendition to a requesting origin.
