PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel tank for vehicles superior in corrosion resistance, which does not volatilize a stored gasoline therein for a long term, by using a material of a soft stainless steel having superior formability provided with a hot-dip aluminized layer. SOLUTION: The fuel tank for vehicles comprises employing an austenitic stainless steel which has 50% or more of total elongation when being formed by uniaxial stretching, and has 400 N/mm<SP>2</SP>or less of the work hardening rate, or a ferritic stainless steel which has 30% or more of total elongation when being formed by uniaxial stretching, and has 1.3 or more of the Lankford value (r-value), as a base material, and having a hot-dip aluminized layer formed on the surface of the base material. The hot-dip aluminized layer is formed on the surface of the base material preferably having a coating mass of 30-50 g/m<SP>2</SP>, and the thickness of an alloy layer formed on an interface between the base material and the hot-dip aluminized layer is regulated to 5μm or less. A chromium-free chemical conversion coating can be formed on the surface layer of the hot-dip aluminized layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
