The invention relates to a method for operating a technical unit which is arranged on or inside the body of a living being and is used to monitor the body functions and/or physical condition of a living being. Said unit independently detects data and measuring values relating to the body functions and/or the physical condition of the living being by means of adapted sensors, stores said data and measuring values at least temporarily, and transmits them to an external unit at a pre-determined moment via a communication network. Said external unit transmits control signals to the technical unit via the communication network, according to the transmitted data and measuring values. The operation of the technical unit is influenced according to the control signals, and/or corresponding means cause the technical unit to have an effect on the living being or the environment thereof.
