The fuel cell system has a fuel cell with a number of stacked cells (10a,..) for generating electrical power by introducing a fuel gas and a number of channels (201) for a thermal medium that are provided mutually independently so that a thermal medium can flow independently through the channels. The channels are arranged on the cell surfaces perpendicular to the stacking direction.
