Production of a honeycomb body (1) comprises forming a jacketed tube (2) made from a metal sheet, forming a hole (12) next to a perforated edge (7) in the metal sheet, applying a flange piece (6) on the perforated edge, placing the honeycomb structure in the tube, and heat treating to join the jacketed tube and the flange piece. An Independent claim is also included for the honeycomb body produced. Preferred Features: The perforated edge and the flange piece are structured so that they remain together before and during the heat treatment. The heat treatment is a soldering process using a solder powder, solder paste or solder foil. The honeycomb structure has a free space (11) for receiving a sensor (5).
