The invention relates to a method for deep rolling and dressing crankshafts. According to said method, values relating to the deformation behaviour of the crankshaft during the deep-rolling method are determined for said crankshaft in a defined area of a journal. The areas of all journal points are deep rolled in sequence and the respective deformation modification is stored in a computer in the form of a matrix. The combination of deep-rolling forces required to give the crankshaft (1) a desired end shape is determined by means of the characteristic values of the crankshaft that have been obtained as above, with the aid of a mathematical formula. This is in general the smallest possible deformation. Initial deformations of the crankshaft (1) are taken into account. All the remaining crankshafts (1) are deep rolled using said combination of deep-rolling forces. A two-stage method can be used in addition to a single-stage method.
