The method involves entering data for transmission into a data entry device of the data transmitter, encoding it and combining into coded data blocks, transforming into a multiple tone signal, converting into an analog transmission signal and sending via a transmission channel. Switch-on processes are provided in the transmitter with redundant compensation signals so that the crest factor of modulated signals in the analog data stream is reduced.
