The invention relates to the use of thiophenes or bisthiophenes as agents for providing a body or optical effect to human keratin fibres, particularly hair. The invention further relates to the use of thiophenes or bisthiophenes which give rise to a polymer absorbing in the visible spectrum, by means of oxidative polymerisation in the form of oxidative colourant precursors in a composition for the colouring of human keratin fibres. The invention also relates to a composition comprising a thiophene or a bisthiophene and methods for use of said compounds.
