A process for the production of N-(triorganylsilylmethyl)-substituted 1,2-diaminoethanes comprises reaction of a halomethyltriorganylsilane with ethylenediamine in a molar ratio of 1:2-1:30. A process for the production of N-(triorganylsilylmethyl)-substituted 1,2-diaminoethanes comprises reaction of a halomethyltriorganylsilane of formula (1) with ethylenediamine in a molar ratio of 1:2-1:30. R3-a(R'O)aSiCH2X (1); R = alkyl; R' = alkyl; X = halo; and a = 1,2 or 3.
