An integrated photonic device has a plurality of input/output waveguides. Each input/output waveguide includes a core (16) having a top and sidewalls, and a cladding layer (14 a/b) over the top and sidewalls of the core. The cladding layer has a reduced thickness over the sidewalls to improve the adjacent channel isolation.
