WIDE HANDLE UPRIGHT LUGGAGE CASE

Upright luggage cases are preferred by travelers but the telescoping wheel handle usually needed for moving and controlling the upright luggage case on its wheels is cumbersome, tends to either protrude unduly from the back surface of the case or interferes with packing in the main packing compartment of the case. Such wheel handles also prevent using the back surface of the case for access to any substantial packing space. This upright luggage case (1) provides a wide wheel handle grip (21) which extends along the entire lateral dimension across the upper face of the case and handle grip (11) thereof conforms snugly to the upper surface of the case when fully collapsed. This wide wheel handle includes telescoping rods or tubes (23) which are fastened in the luggage case immediately adjacent to each case's side faces along the inside surface of the rail (18). The storage tubes (22) into which the tubes (23) telescopically store form two sides of a four-sided frame extending along the entire walls of the rail of the case to provide structure for the case without substantially interfering with packing items within the main packing compartment. The front face of the case includes molded corner pieces (40) that provide some structural stability and volume to the main packing door (12) making up most of the front face of the case. These molded corner pieces also aid in efficient use of textile materials by permitting assembly of almost perfectly rectangular panels (121, 122, 123) of fabric material to make up this major portion of the luggage case jacket or outer covering (10).
