The invention relates to a method and a device for measuring optical distance by emitting an amplitude-modulated, bundled optical signal and by receiving the signal reflected on the target object. The modulation frequency is continuously regulated by means of a regulation loop in such a way that a fixed phase difference, which is independent from the distance, is maintained between the emitted signal and the received signal. The aim of the invention is to reduce the means required for the distance evaluation circuit, simultaneously maintaining a high level of precision, and to increase the obtainable regulation speed. To this end, the phase difference is detected by means of a phase comparator.
