The flying train (10) consists of several interconnected aerostats (16-26) for continuous movement of the train. A means of propulsion (12) is provided only on one section (16) of the aerostats and is in the form of an aircraft which is connected to one or more of the aerostats in such a way that a power transmission in the horizontal direction is made possible. The aircraft may be turboprop or piston engine propeller driven. The flying train is constructed in modular fashion with the number of aerostats variable. Means (34,38) for the lifting and transporting of cargo and/or passengers. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a lifting gas component (26) for the aerostats and made of semi-flexible plastic; (b) a frame construction (28) for holding the lifting gas component; (c) a method for the transporting of cargo or passengers by means of the flying train; (d) an airship port; (e) and a method for taking an airship out of a hangar.
