The useful output heating cell has a combustion mixture (15) fed to a gas feed (10) and burner element (30) from underneath by means of a fan (13). A heat exchanger (20) as a hollow component is connected to the burner element and gas feed, and the cross section of the heat exchanger's closed chamber reduces in the upwards direction and changes into a gas outlet (23). Protruding cooling ribs (24) are formed on the inner wall of the heat exchanger, and the wall itself has spirally extending through-passages (25) for the water to be heated.
