The method involves modulating the burner function. A temperature-controlled fan (10) supplies combustion air. An aperture (14) forms a flow resistance in an air channel (12). A gas line opens into the air channel behind the aperture. A unit measures the air flow and controls the gas supply. The pressure drop across the aperture is determined to adjust its effective cross-section, to keep the pressure drop at a constant desired value (W). The gas supply is controlled according to the cross-section or the adjustment movement.
