The base unit for the brace bracket comprises a plate (15) and the connecting unit (17) for securing the brace wire to the base unit comprises a part which can be releasably snap-fitted into the plate by applying a force essentially perpendicular to the surface of the tooth (25) to which the plate is attached. The brace comprises at least one brace wire and at least two brackets, each bracket being secured to the wire by a connecting unit. The bracket is secured to a lateral surface of at least one of the teeth or to a band on the teeth. An Independent claim is also included for the bracket.
