Method for authorizing the use of a chip card (1) for implementation of a payment process, whereby a pre-terminal (2) has a data connection to a payment terminal (3) so that relevant data can be exchanged between the two terminals for authorization of a payment transaction. PIN authorization takes place in the pre-terminal. If authorization is not immediately possible, authorization takes place via the background system of the payment terminal. The invention also relates to a corresponding payment transfer method and a payment transfer system.
