PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a sewing start position be more accurate. SOLUTION: A binding device 1 piles up and holds a melt edge cloth 81 and a flap cloth 82 on a body cloth 80 by a large pressing device 9 and carries the respective cloths from a first position P1 to a second position P2 by a feed motor 20. Then, the binding device 1 detects the front edge 82a and rear edge 82b of the flap cloth 82 by a first sensor unit 30 composed of a light projection part 33 and a light reception part 34. The first sensor unit 30 is disposed right behind the left needle 4 of a sewing machine main body 3. Then, when the front edge 82a of the flap cloth 82 detected by the first sensor unit 30 is positioned right below the needle 4, the binding device 1 starts sewing by a controller 12, and when the detected rear edge 82b of the flap cloth 82 is positioned right below the needle 4, the binding device 1 ends sewing by the controller 12.
