PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fouling and deterioration at the time of exchange and storage by making it possible to easily recognize and register information of the kind, size, etc., of recording media to use. SOLUTION: An ID mark (information for automatic reading) 28 and an ID symbol (information for user processing) 29 are printed on a media pack 21 free to store the recording media 24. The ID mark 28 and the ID symbol 29 express the same contents (paper kind and size of the stored recording media 24). When this media pack 21 is installed on a printer, the ID mark 28 is automatically read by a recognition means, the kind of the recording media 24 is discriminated, the optimum recording device driving method corresponding to it is selected, and the optimum recording is carried out. Additionally, even in the case when a printer incapable of automating discrimination of the kind of the recording media 24 is installed, it is possible to easily register the kind of the recording media 24 by a user inputting the ID symbol 29 as it is.
