<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machinable ceramics having a high density and a high heat resistance and a manufacturing method therefor which ceramics is capable of being machined through an ordinary metal tool with a high dimensional precision, and is excellent in the high temperature strength, the insulating property, the corrosion resistance, or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The machinable ceramics having a high density and a high heat resistance is comprised of at least one of alumina, zirconia and mullite each containing at least one of xenotime type tetragonal compounds of rare earth elements expressed by TbP0<SB>4</SB>, YP0<SB>4</SB>, CeV0<SB>4</SB>or YV0<SB>4</SB>and monazite type monoclinic compounds of rare earth elements expressed by LaP0<SB>4</SB>, LaV0<SB>4</SB>and the like. This machinable ceramics having a high density and a high heat resistance is manufactured by wet blending powder of monazite type compounds of rare earth elements or the like, alumina powder or the like, and an organic solvent, drying them and obtaining a mixed powder, molding the mixed powder into a body, and then firing the molded body specifically in an atmospheric environment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
