<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IC chip, a printer and a method for alarming heat generation in which a driver circuit can be protected against heat generation and a specified processing operation can be sustained while protecting the driver circuit against heat generation. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 1 comprises a motor driver 34 for driving a carriage motor 20 or a sheet feed motor 22. The motor driver 34 has a thermal shut down circuit 43 which shuts down power supply to the motor driver 34 when the inner temperature T of the motor driver 34 exceeds a threshold level Ta. The motor driver 34 also has an inner temperature detecting circuit 45 which delivers an HW signal when the inner temperature T exceeds a threshold level Tb (<Ta) just before the thermal shut down processing is actuated. A CPU 29 performs heat generation stop processing based on that HW signal and controls the motor driver 34 to stop the carriage motor 20 and the sheet feed motor 22 for a specified time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
