PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an N-cyanoethylated toluenediamine (CNTDA), a composition containing the same and to provide a synthesizing method therefor. SOLUTION: In a preferred embodiment, the CNTDA is represented by the formula (wherein nitrogen atoms are ortho or meta to each other on the aromatic ring). The CNTDA is obtained by reacting a toluenediamine with acrylonitrile in a protic solvent containing an acid catalyst and is particularly suitable for use as a latent curing agent for an epoxy resin.
