PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic trace controller of a welding position capable of conducting stable and excellent welding even when an assembly error of a groove is large by freely controlling a detection position of an optical cutting sensor. SOLUTION: The controller of the welding position integrally arranges the optical cutting sensor comprising a light-projecting means 6 for irradiating a light to a groove 4 of a welding part advancing direction of a welding torch and a two-dimensional light receiving means 7 for imaging a reflected right from the groove 4 of the welding part, detects the groove of the welding part, and automatically tracing it. The controller has a travelling truck 19 loading the optical cutting sensor and travelling in the orthogonal direction to the groove 4 of the welding part, an image processor 22 for detecting a groove displacement with respect to the tip of the welding torch and a groove displacement on a display according to an image received from the two-dimensional light receiving means 7, and a controller 25 for a detection position of a groove for controlling the detection position by the optical cutting sensor using the information of the groove displacement on the display.
