PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer obtained by copolymerizing a conjugated diene monomer with anα,β-unsaturated nitrile in the presence of a molecular weight regulator having a mercapto group enabling it to hydrogenate advantageously, and its production method. SOLUTION: The polymer containing≤40 ppm of the residual amount of the molecular weight regulator is produced from the processes (A): copolymerizing a conjugated diene monomer with anα,β-unsaturated nitrile monomer and (B): heating the polymerization reaction solution containing the unreactedα,β-unsaturated nitrile monomer in the presence of a basic compound, and then the hydrogenated polymer is produced by using the polymer.
