[Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group XXVIII] In a spigot-and-socket pipe joint, a screwthreaded sleeve 6, adapted to receive a gland ring 5 for example, is connected permanently to the socket 2 by a double flange 8 which formed on the end of the socket to engage an annular channel-section recess 7 in said sleeve. The flanging operation is effected by a mandrel 12 provided with a shoulder 14 which is pressed against the end of the socket, the socket and sleeve being located within a two-part swage 11. The joint is completed by a packing ring 3 and follower ring 4. |
