PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection device of a vehicle capable of certainly protecting an occupant without using a side air bag device when an impact load works on a side wall of the vehicle. SOLUTION: An arm rest 3 for cushioning pushes back the side body of the occupant M along an abdominal part from a waist part to the inside of a car room by pressurizing it while cushioning it immediately before the occupant M seated in a seat 2 collides against a side door 1 by reaction as the impact load works on the side door of the vehicle or immediately after the side door 1 is pushed into the inside of the car room by the impact load. Consequently, the occupant M is certainly protected from secondary collision with the side door 1 of the vehicle. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
