<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a glass pipe for optical fibers, where its manufacturing efficiency can be enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: A dummy pipe 51 is attached to one end face of a long glass material 50 in a state that the central axes of the pipe and the material coincide with each other, and a dummy material 52 is attached to the other end face of the glass material 50. Then, a drilling jig 55, whose relative position to a heat source 54 relatively moving along the longitudinal direction of the glass material 50 is kept constant, is inserted into the opening part 51A of the dummy pipe. The drilling tool 55 is pressed into an end face 50A of the glass material in the dummy pipe side while the glass material 50 is softened by heating from the heat source 54. The drilling tool 55 is pressed into the dummy pipe 52 while the dummy material is softened by heating from the heat source 54, and thus the glass material is penetrated with the drilling jig along the central axis of the glass material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
