The invention relates to a method of checking sheaths by means of ultrasounds. The inventive method makes use of an ultrasound frequency of between 1.5 MHz and 3 MHz, and preferably between 2 and 2.5 MHz, and a pulse width, measured at -20dB, of between 0.5 and 1.5 mu s, and preferably less than 1 mu s. According to the invention, the device comprises: a container (15) through which the sheath passes comprising an impervious outlet and inlet; and a machine with a rotating head which supports several transducers (3) which are disposed around the sheath passage in the container.
