<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speed up the decision of skew values, downsize a skew detection/ correction circuit, and respond simultaneously to parallel links with the different skew values. <P>SOLUTION: A method for generating a data pattern for the skew detection/ correction is improved. The data pattern used for the skew correction in the range up to 15 characters is disclosed. In this invention, two data PING and PONG are communicated between two nodes constructing a bi-directional link to confirm the skew detection/correction. (The node sends the PING pattern when it does not finish the skew detection/correction, while the node sends the PONG pattern when it finishes the skew detection/correction). Likely, special data is communicated to execute the skew detection/correction. The time required for determining the skew value is reduced, and the scale of the circuit is downsized. The pattern generation method of this invention is applicable to both the small and the large skews. The larger the skew value to be corrected is, the higher the effect of saving in the decision time and the circuit scale is, compared with the prior arts.
