PURPOSE: An organic clay compound for the preparation of a polar polymer-clay nanocomposite, a polar polymer-clay nanocomposite containing the compound and its preparation method are provided, wherein the nanocomposite shows excellent mechanical and thermal properties. CONSTITUTION: The organic clay compound comprises a polar monomer and a phosphonium ion between clay mineral layers. Preferably the clay mineral is derived from smectite; and the phosphonium ion is represented by R1R2R3R4P+, wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently a functional group having at least eight carbons or a functional group polymerizable with a polyester monomer, and at least one among the four groups is a functional group having at least eight carbons and at least one among the four groups is a functional group polymerizable with a polyester monomer. The polar polymer-clay nanocomposite comprises a polar polymer medium; and the organic clay compound dispersed into the medium.
