PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and an image processing apparatus for efficiently receiving and compressing image data. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes a reception means 112 for receiving image data from an external device; a storage means 113 for storing the image data received by the reception means, a compression means 114 for compressing the image data, and a control means 111 for controlling the reception, storage and compression of the image data. When the control means 111 executes a reception storage step for receiving and storing the image data to the storage medium and a compression step for compressing the image data stored in the reception storage step to generate compressed image data and storing the data to the storage means, the control means decides whether the control means executes the reception storage step for other image data in parallel with processing of the compression step or executes the reception storage step of the other image data after the end of the compression step depending on the capacity of the image data.
