摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the control of the micronization of crystal grains and a reduction in grain size distribution, and to effectively reduce a magnetic mutual action between grains in the magnetic recording medium of a perpendicular magnetic recording system. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium of a perpendicular magnetic recording system constituted by sequentially laminating at least a nonmagnetic substrate layer 104, a magnetic layer 105, a protective film 106 and a liquid lubricant layer 107 on a nonmagnetic substrate employs a granular structure in which the magnetic layer 105 has ferromagnetic crystal grains of a hexagonal close-packed structure, and a surrounding nonmagnetic gain boundary mainly made of an oxide. The nonmagnetic substrate layer 104 is a metal or an alloy having a hexagonal close-packed crystal structure and, below the nonmagnetic substrate layer 104, a seed layer 103 made of a metal or an alloy having a face-centered cubic crystal structure is disposed.
