A method for the hydrolytic treatment of organic residue with a separate methane step without any intermediate steps comprises the following stages: (1) two-stage hydrolysis step comprising biomechanical dissolving of the substance and mesophilic treatment at a temp. greater than 37 deg C and (2) sepn. of solid and liq. components in a subsequent biogas reactor in which a horizontal flow is generated so that (partially) mineralised solids are removed from the reactor base and solid-free liq. is removed from the upper section of the reactor.
