PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transceiver and a high speed interface system for selec tively matching or approximately matching output impedance of the transceiver to characteristic impedance of a transmission line, which improves integrity of transmission signals. SOLUTION: The transceiver comprises: a receiver 15 for receiving an input signal via a transmission line Zo; an active termination circuit 54 connected to the transmission line Zo in parallel with the receiver 15; a self-terminated drive circuit 52 for outputting a first state voltage and a second state voltage depending on output data; a selective circuit 56 for selectively connecting the self-terminated drive circuit 52 to the transmission line Zo when the output is the first state voltage or selectively connecting the self-terminated drive circuit 52 or the active termination circuit 54 to the transmission line Zo when the output is the second state voltage, wherein input impedance combining the receiver 15 with the active termination circuit 52 and output impedance of the self-terminated driver circuit 52 are matched or approximately matched to the characteristic impedance of the transmission line Zo.
